PROPOLIS
PROPOLIS is plant resin collected by bees for use in and around the hive. In plants it is usually the sticky coating around buds that serves to protect them from the elements of weather and from attack by bacteria, fungi, molds, and viruses.
Description Brilliant, dark brown solid chunks, or dark brown liquid with a resinous odor.
Active Ingredients The main chemical classes present in propolis are : the flavonoids which are the principal constituents, phenolics, and various aromatic compounds. Propolis also contains some volatile oils, terpenes, and beeswax. Results of analysis: -50% to 55% of resinous and balsamic substances -30 to 40 % of beeswax - 5 to 10% of volatile or essential oils -5% miscellaneous
Properties The most sterile place in nature is the bee hive. Propolis is the natural substance responsible for neutralizing any bacteria, fungi or virus which enters it. Highly concentrated in flavonoids, well-known plant compounds that have antioxidant, anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, anti-viral, and anti-inflammatory properties. Other properties of propolis include acting as a local anesthetic, wound healing, tissue regenerating, immuno stimulatory, chelating heavy metal and capillary strengthening.
Application Cosmetic preparation: Anti-fungal, anti-aging and healing preparations. for herpes and gingivitis (antimicrobial soaps, deodorant, antiseptic, powders, deodorant, oral and dental products, dandruff shampoos and lotions, burn healing ointment, acne products…) Nutritional preparation: anti-aging, immunity boosting preparations.
Dosage in formulation Cosmetic preparation: 0.5% to 20% Nutritional preparation: 250 mg to 1 g per day
Solubility Poorly soluble in warm water and in hydrocarbon solvents. Soluble in alcohol.
Toleration In the dosage we recommend, for the manufacture of food supplement, propolis is designated as non-toxic, causes no side effects and is totally safe. For the manufacture of cosmetic preparation, it is non-irritant to the intact skin. No objection to the application of preparations containing propolis in the vicinity of the eye.
Storage At room temperature (protected from light, in well closed containers. For good efficiency, should not be stored for longer than 1 year before processing.
